Squirrel vs. Droll Yankee Flipper “squirrel-proof” feeder

I was wondering why the battery in my Droll Yankee Flipper “squirrel-proof” bird feeder kept getting run down. Now I know. This guy just keeps coming back until he’s eaten his fill!

To people who buy squirrel-proof bird feeders… why do you care? I mean, I know it’s a BIRD feeder, but food is food, and what exactly is so wrong about sharing it with more than one creature? What’s everyone’s problem with squirrels?

I have the same feeder, but our squirrels are not as smart as yours have learned to be……amazing

You’re commenting on the Brome. Sounds like an urban legend. I’ve never seen and can’t imagine this happening. When a large bird or squirrel is anywhere near the small birds take off.

yeah but have any squirrels/bigger birds jumped on while a smaller bird was feeding and clamped down the port and crushed his head? – i’ve heard of that happening

I work at a bird store called wild birds unlimited, and we have this feeder and the brome feeders. the brome ones are the best.

wait how was the battery thing not doing stuff to stop squirel base…if you think im crazy how do you think they get smarter when they are away!

  • vulture19 says:

Actually, they have. There was a documentary called The Great Daylight Robbery that showed it being beaten. It takes two squirrels, one stands on the back and counterbalances while the other pillages.

Never pit your intelligence against a hungry squirrel.

I’m liking the Brome Squirrel Buster II, Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder. It’s usually available on eBay. It was a pain to originally set up but now it’s easy to refill and it really does frustrate squirrels. As soon as a squirrel jumps on the perch bar it clamps down and bars access to the food. So far no squirrel has been able to defeat it.

WTF I thought that thing is squirrel proof. I wanted to buy one this spring but now I dont know what to get. Does anyone recommend a real squirrel proof bird feeder?

  • mpekar1945 says:

Small red squirrels and chipmunks have no problem at all defeating this feeder but most grey squirrels get spun off once or twice and give up. This grey Squirrel didn’t give up. He learned through trial and error how to stay on without being spun off.

  • Riddick4437 says:

How is it staying on there? I was wanting to get one of those.
